Third ROAR entry

Comments
1. Mexicans had the worst jobs during the time that Grillo was a child.
2. Many Asians also inhabited the area in which he used to live.
3. He began to rebel against his society because people like him were being treated unfairly.
4. This group that he and his friends had started was also needed to protect them from other gangs who threatened them because they were small.
5. Power was important to Grillo because he thought that he needed it to feel strong.

Questions
1. Why did the group of men start attacking the school?
2. Who else was a part of the group that Grillo had been in?
3. Could he have felt powerful without using physical strength?
4. Did he want to channel his anger at one specific person?

Vocabulary
1. Incubators- A place or situation that permits or encourages the formation and development, as of new ideas. pg 40
2. Peroxided- To bleach (hair) with hydrogen peroxide. pg 44
3. Bungalow- a cottage of one story. pg 46

Literary Terms
1. “skirts which hugged their behinds." This is personification that gave the skirts human-like characteristics.
2.“we through her rain-stained, beat-up encyclopedias, which were as ancient as she was." The books are compared to the teacher by using a simile.

Summary
1. This section of the book was about the new group that Grillo had started with his friends and how he needed it to protect himself.
